“Money is not the most important thing in the world. Love is. Fortunately, I love money.”- Anonymous
What started as a mode of transaction to barter goods, today, has become the most important aspect of civilization and maybe also the basis of its survival. It gives you power, absolute power. Power to use it and abuse it.
Money is ambition and sometimes pure greed. Money gives us joy and it gives us misery. It is a drug that gives you that 'kick'- a sudden rush-an addiction. It is a crime when one uses it to bribe, kill, plunder, lie, corrupt or start a war. It is also a boon which helps feed and house the homeless, and creates value in society.
Whatever it is, it sure is a damn necessity but for some it's never enough. It is true that money makes the world go round! Today, as the world fights recession, economies try to use their money wisely. Money has always been in motion, passing hands, countries and governments, linking nationality, race and religion thus bringing everyone closer together.
The exhibition tries to look at the role of money in all its forms. As good and evil.
The artists today confront the place they have carved for their art in a social world dominated by money. They explore the up's and down's of the stock exchange, the hunger of a farmer, the politics of the country, the infrastructure, the consumerism where celebrities are the new God's, and some simply use it to make art by using actual currency and coins.
